NY Notary Guide

Finding Work

Build relationships, not promises

Explore potential customers and work sources while keeping your scope and qualifications clear.

These are research and outreach ideas, not job listings, partnerships or guaranteed customers. Confirm real opportunities, assignment terms and your lawful role before accepting work.

Direct customers and referrals

Business guidance: make your availability and service area clear, ask satisfied customers for appropriate referrals and cultivate repeat relationships. Do not imply a referral guarantees appointments.

Local businesses and professional relationships

DOS identifies banks, law offices and other institutions as employers of commissioned notaries. Explore actual roles with local organizations and professionals; no hiring relationship or partnership is claimed here.

Mobile and healthcare relationships

Business guidance: contact businesses or facilities through their proper channels, explain your limited notarial scope and follow access and privacy policies. Facility access and demand must be confirmed, not assumed.

Signing services and corporate assignments

Business guidance: investigate legitimate services, their contracts, actual assignment criteria and permitted duties. Private screening or certification requests are industry requirements, not a new New York notary license. Never accept unauthorized legal work.

Online presence and local search

Business guidance: keep a professional website or directory profile accurate, with real contact details and areas served. Avoid misleading titles, invented testimonials or income claims. Maintain lawful advertising and secure communications.
