Exam scheduling
September–December 2026 · New York City
- From September through December 2026, New York City exams require advance scheduling by email. Email exams@dos.ny.gov with subject line "Schedule Notary Public Exam" and include your full name, address, type of exam (Notary Public), and your preferred exam date(s). Only those who receive an emailed confirmation may report to the exam site. Unscheduled arrivals are turned away. Arrive 15 minutes early.

Prepare for exam day
The written exam costs $15. Bring current government-issued photo identification and two #2 pencils. The multiple-choice exam allows one hour; results are reported as passed or failed and are valid for two years.
